WWW Wednesday

Happy Hump Day Folks!

It’s that time of the week again!

Every Wednesday I participate in a meme called WWW Wednesday.

This meme is a challenge where you simply share what you’re reading, what you’ve recently finished, and what you hope to read in the near future.

www

The meme is currently handled by Taking On A World of Words, and anybody can participate.

Simply read the 3 W questions below and answer them should you want to:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in “The Satan Sacrifice” of Kinnakee, Kansas. She survived—and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, the Kill Club—a secret secret society obsessed with notorious crimes—locates Libby and pumps her for details. They hope to discover proof that may free Ben. Libby hopes to turn a profit off her tragic history: She’ll reconnect with the players from that night and report her findings to the club—for a fee. As Libby’s search takes her from shabby Missouri strip clubs to abandoned Oklahoma tourist towns, the unimaginable truth emerges, and Libby finds herself right back where she started—on the run from a killer.

Opinion so far:

I’m about 150 pages in, and so far I am enjoying it. My main quip is with the main character and how awful she is. I mean, we’ve got this girl who survived a terrible tragedy but who has done nothing with her life since. And actually, all she wants to do is sit around while people throw money at her out of pity.

It’s pretty obvious that Flynn did this on purpose, but I legit DO NOT like the main character. If it wasn’t for the mystery of what really happened driving me forward, I probably wouldn’t like this book at all.

Who knows though? Maybe the MC will finally grow a pair and become a better person through this journey. I sincerely hope so.

In 1934, almost everyone struggles to pay the rent, and Alex Dawson is no exception. To support his writing habit, he moonlights with his mentor Donnie as a bodyguard for the mayor. It’s dull work, until the night a handsome, golden-eyed stranger catches his eye–and both his boss and his mentor are killed when his back is turned.

Jobless and emotionally adrift, Alex vows to find the murderer before the corrupt police can pin the blame on him. But he soon discovers he’s in over his head. The golden-eyed stranger turns out to be a mob boss’s cousin, and a suspicious stack of money in Donnie’s dresser leads Alex to discover that his mentor and the mayor were involved in something more crooked than fundraising dinners and campaign speeches. As the death count rises amid corruption, mob politics, and anarchist plots, Alex realizes that the murders aren’t political or even business. This is the work of a spree killer, and Alex and his new boyfriend are the only ones who can stop them.

My Opinion:

I loved this book to pieces!

This was a great whodunit set in the era of the Great Depression. Thrills, murder, and romance abound in this great debut novel from Thea McAlistair.

Opinion so far:

Okay, so most likely I am going to read Sarah by Teri Polen next since it’s on my bookshelf at home, but don’t quote me on it. Like I said in my post on my Halloween reads, I’m just kind of testing things out as I go, so there’s no guarantee I’ll read something I say I will right now.

That being said, Teri Polen is a great writer, so I’m sure I’ll be drawn in by her spectacular writing. I’ve just been a little moody on my book picks lately to be honest.

Definitely keep your eyes peeled!

That’s a Wrap!

  1. Probably the first and only time I’ll ever see my book beside Victoria Schwab’s, lol. I just got the sequel to City of Ghosts, but haven’t read either of them yet. She’s one of my fav authors.

  2. I LOVE the twist in Dark Places (I hope that’s not a spoiler!), it was one of the best of Flynn’s for me. I hope it gets you yelling ‘WHAT?!’ at your book like I did. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!
