Book Review: Animorphs #25,The Extreme

I had a nice relaxing day to myself continuing my writer’s retreat in Hermann. I am really on a role with this wine-buying kick and super excited about bringing some great stuff back for my friends.
I’ve basically been reading and writing, rinse, repeat for the past few days, so naturally I finished another Animorph book today.
This time it was #25, The Extreme.

I gave this book four freezing stars!
This time around, we are in Marco’s POV, which I tend to enjoy most times. Turns out, I really did, four stars worth at least.
Everything’s returned to normal for now, and Cassie and Marco are hanging out in the school gym when Erik the Chee comes up and starts a conversation. “Oh no,” says Marco. And he’s right. There’s a rather nasty development in the works on the Yeerk side.
You see, they have a base somewhere that is working on converting all water on Earth to be adaptable for Yeerk pools. Not so great. With the world’s water supplies at stake, Marco and the other Animorphs jump into action.
I have to say, this was much better than the last book.
As always, the characters are pretty good and stick to their personalities. This mission includes all of them, and everyone got a good amount of screen time. I will note that Marco didn’t seem quite as funny as usual throughout, though I did still burst out laughing at several of his sarcastic jokes.
The plot, while interesting did end up falling a bit flat, which is why I knocked off a star. The stakes are high, yes, but a lot of the book ended up being more about them learning to survive in the cold extremes. There was a small plot hole where they could’ve clearly tried to acquire a morph earlier on but didn’t. That being said, there was a lot of action and fun along the way, and I was totally there for the thrill of it!
I had quite a bit of fun with this one and look forward to the next. Hoping to squeeze maybe one or two more in on my Animorphs readathon week!

What are you going to do when you run out of Animorph books?
Oh there are tons of other YA series that I plan on filling the void. Goosebumps for a start would be my next choice, and since the books dont really follow each other closely I can pick up the next one whenever I feel like it.
I think I’m having issues when I respond to comments on my phone, so here goes again lol.
There are a number of great YA series I plan on replacing with Animorphs once I’m done. The next obvious choice for me is Goosebumps and I can kind of pick them up at my leisure since it’s not a typical series where you have to read them in order.
The sky’s the limit!
The Goosebumps collection wasn’t around when I was a kid, but I got to read them when my daughter was young. Great fun!
Yeah, Goosebumps is pretty good from what I recall from my childhood. I didn’t read all of them, but a good number. I remember one especially about a vampire creeped me out.
That and there are like 7 bajillion other great younger-targeted book series that I’d like to give a chance.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my adult reads, but YA and middle grade are just so easy to get through so I end up reading those about 50% of the time now.

Muahaha, I am Jonny, fast reader! Lol at least when I set my mind to it. This is the fifth one I read this week. I knew I could do it!
Writing is going well. About 4k in the past two days, but I still have an entire chapter to write plus a brief epilogue, so tomorrow I’m not leaving the cottage unless I absolutely have to.
Oh I have like 10 bottles of wine and a bottle of whiskey, I’ve gone off the deep end!

It’s lovely to sit and read a book beginning to end. There’s something very relaxing about doing that.

I’m just getting ready to not go out like at all for the next couple months. I’ll be bored, which means I’ll need to drink my weight in wine and liquor LOL.
Just kidding, I’ll take it easy, at least during the week.
Yeah, I’m slaying these Animorphs books in 1-3 sittings right now and I’m finding that really is the best way to do them.
Oh yeah, I’ll probably write 4k tomorrow. I’ll pretty much have to, but I know I can do this. Strong like bull!
