Short Story Review: Little Free Library

Hello Again Booknerds and Bibliophiles,

It’s time for another short story review!

This one is another Tor freebie, and it’s titled Little Free Library by Naomi Kritzer. (You can read this story for free here.)

Like most of the Tor freebies, I don’t know anything about the author, but after skimming the writing style for a moment I knew I had to read this. This was published very recently on 4/8/20, so check it out if you want some fresh fiction.

Alright, time for the review!

Sharing stories we love with one another is one of the most magical forms of connection there is. This is especially so for Meigan, who develops an unexpected friendship with a mysterious borrower of books from her Little Free Library.

I gave this short story five fabulous stars!

This short story was phenomenal.

We follow Meigan, a homeowner who recently constructed a little free library. She takes great care in its decoration and construction, and soon starts a conversation with a mysterious, intriguing borrower of books via notes back and forth.

Everything about this short story worked for me.

Meigan is an intelligent woman with a good head on her shoulders. Despite someone first taking all of her free books, she takes the high road and doesn’t get mad about it. These are the kinds of characters we should look up to.

The plot was short, simple, and sweet, but also extremely riveting. I couldn’t get enough. I had to know what was going to happen next. I also really loved all the book references, especially for the Belgariad series by David Eddings.

Yes, the ending felt a little abrupt, but I believe it was a well-executed, satisfying one.

Ultimately, this is definitely one of my favorite short stories read to date, and I can’t wait to read more similar works by this author!

That’s A Wrap!

Well that’s it for this short story review. I hope you enjoyed it!

Have you read this story? Are there other short stories you’ve read that you simply have to gush about? Feel free to leave a comment. I’d love to start a conversation!
