Series Blurb:

This three-part, self-contained limited series is about the newest member of the Midnight Society, her first scary tale, and what happens to the group when the terrifying events of her story start to actually happen in their small town.

Overall Impression

Growing up in the 90’s, one of the greatest things was watching the original show Are You Afraid of the Dark? I remember watching this before bed, freaking myself out when I was alone in my room. So when I saw this reboot was available on Amazon, naturally I freaked out and watched the whole thing in one sitting. I plead the fifth!

Much like the original show, a group of teenagers get together around a campfire and tell scary stories, only with an intriguing twist. One of the stories is very real, and it’s coming for them. Can they band together to stop whatever this evil is?

This short, three-episode season was great. The characters felt original, and I liked the main character and the romance element there. The others were great supporting characters, and strayed mostly from typical clichés.

The plot really threw me for a loop. The evil is real? And in town? I was super excited because in the TV show that never really happened as far as I can remember. The pacing of this season was also wonderful and I was addicted, watching each episode after the next.

Lucky for us, a second season has been verified by The Wrap, so all the spooky goodness will continue! Ultimately, this was a great reboot of an old favorite, and I hope they do the next season some justice. Definitely check this one out!

Final Score

8.5/10

  1. I watched this with my kids, thanks to you, and really enjoyed it! I have to admit, the 3rd episode confused us at first, but overall, I loved it as much as I did when I was a kid.

    • Yeah, they did, and it’s not stopping with the first season. So worthy of a binge.

Yeah I was one of those 90s kids hooked to Snick/Nick at Nite
