Series Review: American Horror Story, Season Nine – 1984 (Netflix)

My Review:
I had mixed feelings about this season of American Horror Story. Over the nine seasons, there have been a few I didn’t enjoy as much as I’d hoped, and this is one of them.
This season’s theme is slasher campy horror at a children’s summer camp. The year is 1984, and a group of individuals leave LA in hopes of some much needed change of scenery for Camp Redwood. Madness ensues as secrets are revealed and the new counselor’s combat not just their own demons, but very literal ones as well.
I wanted to like the characters of this run, but something was fundamentally off for me. Their connections to each other seemed too convenient and the explanations too farfetched as things unraveled. I also thought it odd that so many of them had done horrible things in the past. The first few episodes were the roughest for me. For me, I just had this idea of how the camp theme would play out and that didn’t happen at all.
However, I will say that things got better after the first few episodes. The story progressed beyond the confines of Camp Redwood and attempted to continue the scary story of these individuals. Was it great? Not really, but I did get an ending that I enjoyed, and the season was entertaining.
In the end, this season may be a bit lackluster for those wanting something epic and awesome, but it is still worth a look see if you’re curious. Happy watching!

Yeah, I know that AHS is a gamble and their stuff tends to be a little flawed, but this one just hardly kept my interest.
This was a more slashery feel but used elements from season 1 a lot. Meh.
Which seasons are your favorite? Mine would have to be a toss up between season 1 and Roanoke. 😀
I liked Coven and Apocalypse most if I’m being honest, but I did like Hotel a bit too.
I did like Roanoke, but the repetition of things several times turned me off a bit. Cathy Bates was awesome though, I will say.
I think Coven was my favorite season. The characters really stuck with me.
Oh yay, twinsies! I loved the witch theme and Fiona Good was such a vile character. Definitely a favorite of mine.
Nine seasons? My husband and I watched two, I think. I don’t know why we stopped. It may be worth picking up again on those days when we’re bored. 🙂

Yeah, I wasn’t very impressed, but the best part is you can pick up whatever season you want and it won’t affect your experience. I’d try out a theme you think resonates best with you. For me, I started with Coven and loved it.
