Graphic Novel Review: Something is Killing the Children, Vol. 3

Howdy Halloween Lovers!

I hope you’re getting some time to enjoy the fresh autumn air and enjoying some chilling reads too. It doesn’t quite feel like fall yet here in Kansas City, but hopefully that’ll change in the next week or two. Go away, summer! It’s time for scarves, sweatshirts, and jackets!

Anywho, today I’m stopping by with another spooktacular read.

This time I read Something is Killing the Children, Vol. 3 by James Tynion IV.

After reading the first (my review here) and second (my review here) volume, I am still super hooked on this series! There was also less of a wait on the library this time, so I’m very grateful. 🙂

Though I am bummed that I’m all caught up on the volumes available, I have even more news this time!

There’s going to be a spinoff comic book series coming! It’s going to be called House of Slaughter (how perfect is that? It sounds deliciously evil!), and it’s going to be centered on Erica Slaughter and the past of the secret order she belongs to. Here is the article I found that told me more about it, but paired with the fact that this is going to be a Netflix series (here’s the article on that if you didn’t see it in my last review) I’m just so happy I stumbled upon this series.

Alright, enough chit chat. Let’s get into the review and see if this lived up to the first two great volumes!

Blurb

NOT ALL MONSTERS HIDE IN THE DARK.

Archer’s Peak is in lockdown, as Erica Slaughter has lost control of the situation and news of the killings has spread outside the town. But as the House of Slaughter arrives to clean up the situation by any means necessary, Erica will find that the true threat to those around her isn’t who – or what – she ever expected. And the cost of saving the day may be too high for anyone to pay…

The Review

I loved this graphic novel!

Continuing from the last volume with the monster spawn still on the loose, Erica has some cleaning up to do. Can she make this all right before the House of Slaughter unleashes its fury?

I’ve been hooked since the first volume, and this was a great conclusion to the story arc eager readers have been following. Most of the loose ends were tied up, and it gave everything a sense of finality that was pleasing. So many stories fail to do that, and I think there’s plenty of potential for this universe to be expanded upon.

The characters as always were great. Given this was a conclusion, there wasn’t too much growth going on with them, but that’s expected at this stage of the game. Erica shows her true colors, and I love the way she sees the world and how she clashes with the House of Slaughter and their cold view of the world.

The plot was a lot of action-packed fun as always. Plenty of gory fight scenes and tense moments all around, and of course the artwork was stunning.

This series continues in a new direction in January 2022, and I can’t wait to see where that leads us eager fans. I’ll be counting down the days!

If you haven’t picked up this series yet, do yourself a favor and check it out. You won’t regret it.

That’s A Wrap!

Well that’s it for this book review. I hope you enjoyed it!
