Hello Everyone, and Happy Pride Month!
This month is super special to me, as it honors the trials the LGBTQIA+ community has gone through over the years and the freedoms we have earned. The fight isn’t over, especially in this political climate, but I’m proud to be a member of the community and support it not just now, but throughout the year as well.
Here in KC there’s always a lot of events, and I’m really eager to celebrate this year with my boyfriend! Every year, our city does Pride in Theis Park, so we plan on attending that, hopefully at a time when things aren’t too crazy (I get bad anxiety around big crowds of people).
There’s also Hamburger Mary’s, which sponsors drag brunches and bingo charity events. I’ll definitely be taking some time to attend those events for a good cause.
I’d also like to attend some library events focused on the LGBT community, though I’ll admit I’m having a hard time finding any due to the political climate. Hopefully some libraries stand up and do some events regardless. We certainly can’t back down now!
Lastly, this month I’ll be trying to expand my reading horizons on the LGBT spectrum. To be honest, I haven’t read too many LGBT books because I primarily read horror, fantasy, and scifi, but I know there is plenty of LGBT representation within those genres, so keep your eyes peeled for some fresh reads and recommendations!
How about you, blogisphere? What are you doing this month to celebrate pride and support the LGBTQIA+ community? Feel free to tell me all about it in the comments. I’d love to start a dialogue! Have a great day everyone.
