Do you feel that chill, readers?
It’s winter coming! 🥶Here in Kansas City we got our first winter storm for the year recently, so I wanted to pick a book that at least had some sort of wintry vibe.
Nestled on my bookshelves at home was an old copy of The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena (Goosebumps #38) by R.L. Stine, so I couldn’t resist giving it a try.
Let’s see how this read went!

The Review
I had fun with this creepy book, but overall it fell kind of flat for me.
In this story we follow Jordan and Nicole. Their dad is going on a business trip to Alaska to search for an abominable snowman. Miserable with the thought of being babysat for that long in sunny Pasadena, a twist of fate ends in them travelling with their father. Can they find the fabled abominable snowman, or will they just get frostbite?
So I didn’t hate the premise. It was a good setup. Jordan and Nicole have never left California, so the tundra of Alaska seems exotic to them. I happen to love the cold so I’d be on the first flight there! I also really liked the descriptions of the wilderness once they arrived. It felt very realistic.
Jordan and Nicole were decent MCs. Jordan is a prankster, much like myself, and Nicole is the level headed one. Their dad is an optimist.
Somewhere in the middle of the book things started falling apart plotwise. The plot just got kind of ridiculous and the science behind it didn’t add up. Also, the ending felt really abrupt and left me feeling shortchanged. I think if you can suspend your disbelief you might enjoy this one, but in my opinion there are better Goosebumps novels out there.
