Hello Readers!
Do you feel that change in the air? Fall is coming! This is my favorite time of the year, so most if not all reads coming from me will have some kind of spooky vibe for the spooky season.
Today I’m reviewing The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight (Goosebumps #20) by R.L. Stineto get into the fall mood.
I don’t recall if I read this when I was a kid, but can you guess the first thing I thought about when I saw this cover?
Yeah, scarecrows are terrifying if you ask me, so I couldn’t help but give this a read. Let’s see how it turned out!

Jodie loves visiting her grandparents’ farm. Okay, so it’s not the most exciting place in the world. Still, Grandpa tells great scary stories. And Grandma’s chocolate chip cookies are the best. But this summer the farm has really changed. The cornfields are sparse. Grandma and Grandpa seem worn out. And the single scarecrow has been replaced by twelve evil-looking ones. Then one night Jodie sees something really odd. The scarecrows seem to be moving. Twitching on their stakes. Coming alive . . .

The Review
This is one of my favorite Goosebumps books so far. So much fall fun!
Jodie and her brother Mark have just arrived at their grandparents’ farm out in the country. It’s not the most exciting place, but Jodie always looks forward to this time of year. Except things are different this time. Grandma and Grandpa are acting strangely, and their helper Stanley carries this strange book around with him. Even worse are the odd noises and scarecrows that seem to have a mind of their own. Is there something creepy going on, or has Jodie lost her mind?
The fall vibes really drew me in on this read. Scarecrows are symbols of fall for me, and the small farm setting in the middle of nowhere really gave this a creepy tone throughout.
Jodie and her brother were fun main characters to follow around. There wasn’t really any growth with their characters, but I enjoyed watching them try to figure out the mystery as things progressed. Jodie has severe allergies to the outdoors, and though I was a bit skeptical that her allergies would mess with her eyesight that much, I don’t have allergies myself.
The plot was super fun. Primarily it takes place on the farm, the corn field, and other areas nearby, and there was mystery packed in each short chapter. I also really enjoyed the sprinkle of magic and how that impacted the story. The locations did get a little repetitive, but overall this was a really entertaining story. If you need some fall vibes, you can’t go wrong with this one!
