Book Review: A Mirror Mended (Fractured Fables #2)

Hello, hello readers!

Are you ready for more Fractured Fables? I hope so, because today I’m reviewing A Mirror Mended (Fractured Fables #2) by Alix E. Harrow

My book bestie Misty and I are buddy reading this series (this is the last in the series), and we both really enjoyed the first book, so I just had to have more. This post will be my individual review, soon to be followed by a buddy read convo between Misty and I.

Sound good? Okay, let’s jump right into this review!

Book Review: A Spindle Splintered (Fractured Fables #1)

Blurb

A Mirror Mended is the next installment in USA Today bestselling author Alix E. Harrow’s Fractured Fables series.

Zinnia Gray, professional fairy-tale fixer and lapsed Sleeping Beauty, is over rescuing snoring princesses. Once you’ve rescued a dozen damsels and burned fifty spindles, once you’ve gotten drunk with twenty good fairies and made out with one too many members of the royal family, you start to wish some of these girls would just get a grip and try solving their own narrative issues.

Just when Zinnia’s beginning to think she can’t handle one more princess, she glances into a mirror and sees another face looking back at her: the shockingly gorgeous face of evil, asking for her help. Because there’s more than one person trapped in a story they didn’t choose. Snow White’s Evil Queen has found out how her story ends, and she’s desperate for a better ending. She wants Zinnia to help her before it’s too late for everyone. Will Zinnia accept the Queen’s poisonous request and save them both from the hot-iron shoes that wait for them, or will she try another path?

The Review

Wow, I did not expect to fall in love with the sequel like this!

Five years have passed since Zinnia’s brave actions gave her a new lease on life. But five years of saving damsels has her exhausted. As Zinnia answers a call of distress, she finds herself trapped and learns that her actions have had far more devastating effects in the fairytale multiverse. Can Zinnia fix the damage she’s caused and find freedom once more?

What shined most brightly for me in this book was how much further I got to explore the fairytale multiverse and its unique worldbuilding. This time around we got to see different iterations of fairytales, from subtle differences to horrifying renditions that gave me the chills (in a good way!), and I was living for it.

Zinnia’s progression in this one was really great and was something of a full circle experience. It was easy to relate to what she was going through, and Eva was a surprisingly complex character as well. I loved all of their interactions and snarky sass to one another, and I couldn’t get enough.

The plot was complex, and I loved all the unexpected turns that came from each chapter. I never knew what was going to happen next, and it was thrilling from beginning to end. Extra kudos for the nod to horror in some of the renditions of stories. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

Highly recommend!
