Have any of you ever done karate before? I enrolled when I was in middle school but I had like zero discipline and didn’t last very long. Womp womp!
Either way, karate is today’s theme in this book review of You’re Not My Sensei (Terror Valley #2) by Squall Charlson.
I read the first book in this series School’s Out For Never! (Terror Valley #1) not too long ago and loved it, so I just had to see what the next story was about!

The Review
Another amazing book by this author!
Young Remy has moved with her dad to a new town. She gave up her chances to finally earn her black belt in karate in doing so, but luckily there’s a dojo in this new place called Solar Strike Karate. However, all of the students seem odd. They pick fights at her middle school, stare intensely at her, and the sensei is terrifying. What’s the deal with this dojo? Are they just strict and disciplined, or do they have darker intentions?
I loved this book so much! Charlson’s style is super easy to read, and each page flows so well it was hard to stop reading. The story draws you in from the beginning and doesn’t let go.
Remy was such a great main character. She’s courageous and resourceful, but still a little unsure of herself, which is super relatable for someone her age. I also really enjoyed the strong bond she shared with her dad, and her former sensei, new friend Chuck, and Principal Cope were all great characters.
There is a ever present ominous tone in this book from chapter to chapter that I loved, and the mystery behind Solar Strike Karate was unique and captivating. There’s action and surprise turns at every corner, and I honestly have zero complaints. This book is a knockout! Highly, highly recommend!
