Book Review: One Day at Horrorland (Goosebumps #16)

Hello Chill and Thrill Seekers!
How do you feel about amusement parks? Love em? Hate em? I adore amusement parks and am what you would call an adrenaline junkie. The crazier the ride, the more I want to ride it. But today’s book review is about twisting that concept into something truly spooky.
Today’s book review is for One Day at Horrorland (Goosebumps #16) by R.L. Stine.
I can’t really recall if I’ve read this one before, but I did watch the TV show episode about a year or two ago and man, it was whacky! Despite that, the book seems to be popular based on its average rating, so I thought I’d give it a go.
Alright, let’s see how my day at Horrorland went!

The Next Ride Might Be Their Last….
The Morris family got lost trying to find Zoo Gardens Theme Park. But that’s okay. They found another amusement park instead. It’s called HorrorLand.
In HorrorLand there are no crowds. No Lines. And the admission is free. It seems like a pretty cool place. But that was before that heart-stopping ride on the deadly Doom Slide. And that terrifying experience in the House of Mirrors. Because there’s something weird about the rides in HorrorLand.
Something a little too creepy.
A little too real…
Reader beware-you’re in for a scare!

The Review

Loved it! This is definitely one of my favorite Goosebumps rereads so far.
In this creepy tale, a family is on a road trip and gets lost. Trying to find someone to point them in the right direction, they find themselves at a bizarre amusement park in the middle of nowhere called Horrorland, where they get much more than they bargained for.
There’s something about a scary amusement park that just works so well. Horrorland was a great concept, and the rides were suitably creepy and thrilling. The doom slide, the house of mirrors, every ride was entertaining to experience with the characters as things went sideways.
This book has a distinctly darker note to it that I also enjoyed. Many times Stine can be a bit too wacky for my taste, but it was more toned down in this book.
The characters felt like your average family. Lizzy is a serious young girl, and her brother Luke and friend Clay are silly all the time, so it evened out nicely. Her parents were the responsible ones so they didn’t get a ton of page time, which felt right.
Overall, no complaints. If you’ve got a hankering for a spooky book, this will definitely whet your appetite!
That’s A Wrap!
Well that’s it for this book review. I hope you enjoyed it!
