Book Review: Let’s Get Invisible! (Goosebumps #6)

Hello, hello, bibliophiles!
I hope you’ve had a great weekend. I went to the Pride celebration in KC and had a great time. But let’s get right into this post. It’s book review time!
This time I read Let’s Get Invisible! (Goosebumps #6) by R.L. Stine.
I don’t recall reading this as a kid, but I’d picked up a copy of this one at my local thrift store, so I couldn’t wait to dive in. On to the review!

The Review

Out of my Goosebumps rereads, this is one of my favorites so far.
Max lives with his parents and obnoxious brother Lefty, and he’s really excited about his upcoming birthday party. But when he discovers a strange mirror in his attic, everything changes. This magic mirror is able to make those who bathe in its light invisible. Excited to show his friends, they soon take turns enjoying the miraculous mirror. However, the longer you stay invisible, the more dangerous it seems to get. Is there more to this mirror than meets the eye?
What made me really enjoy this read was that it’s slightly darker than R.L. Stine’s typical setup. As a horror author, I really loved that. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still perfectly readable for the kiddos, but this story is really chilling if you really think about it.
Max is Lefty’s bigger brother, and I definitely shared his annoyance at Lefty, who is constantly getting into trouble and being super rambunctious. Max is curious but has a good moral center that sets him apart from his brother and friends. Stine has this great ability to portray a kid’s mindset, and this book was no exception.
The mirror itself is the real mystery in this novel, and it’s definitely creepy. I wouldn’t have messed with that thing at all, but naturally Max, Lefty, and his friends have to explore it and the strange phenomenon of being invisible. There weren’t a ton of twists and turns, but when they did happen it was quite a shocker! It would have been nice to have had a change of scenery, as most of this novel takes place in Max’s attic, but other than that I have no complaints.
This book is a perfect intro to creepy stories for younger readers or if you’re feeling nostalgic. You’ve gotta get your hands on this one!
That’s A Wrap!
Well that’s it for this book review. I hope you enjoyed it!
