My First Writer’s Retreat for 2026 Approaches!

Hey there writers and voracious bookworms,

It’s that time again. Yep, your pal Jonny is going on another writer’s retreat!

QOTD for writers & readers: Are you going on any reading or writer’s retreats this year?

A big goal for me in 2026 is to focus on writing more, and I always do pretty well with writer retreats so I wanted my first one for the year to happen soon. I ended up planning my first writer’s retreat for mid-February to give myself enough time to continue plotting forward on my sequel to The Ruins. I have a decent amount of chapters to write, but it’s never bad to be prepared to do more.

I grew up poor and I’m still super frugal today, so I wasn’t going for anything fancy in my Airbnb selection, just some place practical where I can be alone and undisturbed with my thoughts. I stay in-state for the most part these days, but I always make a point to leave the Kansas City area to clear my head, preferably somewhere remote.

I’ll be heading east to the Columbia, MO area, and I’m really happy with my choice of Airbnb. The owner and I went back and forth, talking about how much we love darker works (Stephen King was definitely mentioned), so I know I picked the right place.

Once I return I’ll start thinking on when to do the next Airbnb, as I’m determined to publish The Ruins sequel sometime this year if at all possible. That will most likely entail another writer’s retreat around April/May.

Wish me luck!
