Movie Review – Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire (Shudder)
Greetings Occultists and Paranormal Witnesses,
I hope your week hasn’t been too ghoulish so far.
Today’s post is all about my experience while watching Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire on the Shudder app.
As you may know, I’ve been a big fan of this franchise since I watched the first and second movie on Shudder earlier this year. When I saw that the third and final installment was available for viewing, I simply had to have a watch!
Let’s get into it, shall we?
Movie Blurb:
Nine years after the tragic events of Hell House, the Abaddon Hotel will once again be open to the public. Billionaire Russell Wynn has taken his audience-interactive show, Insomnia, into the abandoned hotel. Russell invites journalist Vanessa Shepherd to film an exclusive behind-the-scenes documentary of the production. What she uncovers will shed light on Russell’s true intentions for relocating his show to the Abaddon and the evil waiting to be unleashed.
My Review:
Overall, I had some mixed feelings about this movie, but let’s dig a little bit.
This movie takes place some years after the bizarre and tragic events of Hell House. A wealthy man Russell Wynn bought the Abaddon Hotel just before it was demolished in order to have a different kind of show called Insomnia.
When the show Morning Mysteries’ new reporter Vanessa hears of this, she decides to cover footage of the new setup, as the mysteries of this location have been debated for nearly a decade.
However, soon after arriving on the scene, strange events begin to happen once again. Can Vanessa figure out what’s at the bottom of the Abaddon Hotel, or will she become just another victim of this evil house?
There are some really great things about this movie.
For starters, we have plenty of plot development. There’s a good amount of buildup that I simply love in a scary movie. The first thirty to forty five minutes had great progression and development of characters at well that had me hooked. Scary things were happening along the way that keep the watcher intrigued and on the edge of their seats.
We also once again get a fair amount of mystery here too. Russell Wynn in particular was interesting, and I wanted to know exactly why he decided to buy this cursed location for an interactive show when he could’ve easily picked another location.
However, as the plot comes to fruition, I started to feel some disappointment. There isn’t as much depth as the first and second movies had, and I kept waiting for there to be an extra plot or mystery element to pull things along only to realize there wasn’t one.
The ending felt extremely rushed, and while we do get some semblance of a conclusion here, I was really disappointed. This is the third movie, so I expected some big things at the end, and it simply didn’t happen.
Overall, Hell House III has some legitimately scary twists and turns, but fails to deliver an ending that will satisfy its cult following.
I give this movie a 5/10.
