Movie Review – Deadcon (Netflix)

deadcon

Movie Blurb:

The horrors and isolation of being a social media influencer run rampant when a collection of YouTube and Instagram stars soon discover there are things scarier than thousands of teenagers armed with phones asking for selfies.

My Review:

Characters

3star

Cliché characters that didn’t stand out as unique in any way, but still managed to entertain.

Plot

3star

A creepy plot that with a little more thought could’ve been much scarier.

Flow

fourstars

Not terrible, but we could actually use more depth in this film. Flashbacks or a subplot would’ve been welcome.

Overall Impression

What’s a better end to the night than a little Netflix? I gave this movie a chance at random when scrolling through horror movies on Netflix. I am very judgmental of a cover and blurb, but when I came across this I was intrigued.

The concept of this movie was great. A convention center with a scary past? Sign me up! Unfortunately, as a whole I think this movie suffered a bit.

For starters, all characters we follow are very cliché and don’t really stand out all that much. If one of them had some real depth to them that would’ve been redeeming. Still, they were entertaining at least, so they had that going for them.

The plot seemed really great at first. In the 80’s something scary happened, and the main characters are impacted by it. But again, there’s something lacking. We are given what actually happened in the 80’s and an explanation but beyond that not much more. There wasn’t enough mystery behind what happened. Yes, the scares are decent, but I wasn’t riveted by the creepy evil that lurked about.

Flow was good given what we had in terms of characters and plot, but it couldn’t be improved without fixing the other aspects of the movie.

In the end, Deadcon is a creepy movie that is entertaining, but as a whole only goes skin deep.

Final Score

6/10
