Series Review: Castlevania, Season One (Netflix)
A vampire hunter fights to save a besieged city from an army of otherworldly creatures controlled by Dracula.
A cast of unlikely heroes brought together by the world’s sudden demise, each with their own secrets.
A world torn asunder by a great evil with plenty of gritty, gory action.
No crazy backstories. The big one we were given is really addictive and draws you in.
Wow, what a great first season! I’ve been a fan of Castlevania since playing Symphony of the Night in the 90’s as a kid. Ironically, I knew of this series but didn’t give it a chance until my friend Stacy told me about it. Given the number of movies and series she’s been spot on about, I knew this would be great, and it totally was!
This first season was brief (just 4 episodes), but we get so much out of it.
All of the characters, good and bad, were all intriguing with their own secrets and drive in this suddenly apocalyptic world. What’s more is that they are each prepared to live through this apocalypse tooth and nail, and the action that results is phenomenal.
The plot drew me in immediately. Vampires, magic, the end of the world. Yes, yes, YES! There’s so much great action here, and the pacing never really seems to slow down all that much, which is a pro for me. The characters are determined to somehow stop this plight on the world, and by the end, I knew I’d be watching all the available seasons very soon.
If you have a taste for dark, well-drawn animated series with plenty of gore, mystery, and intrigue, this is a must-watch!
That’s it for this series review. How about you? Have you seen this one?
