WWW Wednesday

Happy Hump Day!

Every Wednesday I participate in a meme called WWW Wednesday.

This meme is a challenge where you simply share what you’re reading, what you’ve recently finished, and what you hope to read in the near future.

www

The meme is currently handled by Taking On A World of Words, and anybody can participate.

Simply read the 3 W questions below and answer them should you want to:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

All sorcerers are evil. Elisabeth has known that as long as she has known anything. Raised as a foundling in one of Austermeer’s Great Libraries, Elisabeth has grown up among the tools of sorcery—magical grimoires that whisper on shelves and rattle beneath iron chains. If provoked, they transform into grotesque monsters of ink and leather. She hopes to become a warden, charged with protecting the kingdom from their power.

Then an act of sabotage releases the library’s most dangerous grimoire. Elisabeth’s desperate intervention implicates her in the crime, and she is torn from her home to face justice in the capital. With no one to turn to but her sworn enemy, the sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn, and his mysterious demonic servant, she finds herself entangled in a centuries-old conspiracy. Not only could the Great Libraries go up in flames, but the world along with them.

As her alliance with Nathaniel grows stronger, Elisabeth starts to question everything she’s been taught—about sorcerers, about the libraries she loves, even about herself. For Elisabeth has a power she has never guessed, and a future she could never have imagined.

Opinion so far:

I’m not very far with this buddy read. I just reached Chapter 5, and I’ve been using an audiobook with some mixed results. Luckily the physical copy I’ve been waiting for is finally available with my library, so I’m switching off to that format today (I’ll get more into my struggles using audiobooks with the buddy read post).

I have to say, so far this book is pretty good! I like the setting, and there’s magic and some chills present that I’m enjoying.

Hoping to finish maybe this weekend or early next week. Stay tuned for the review!

Opinion:

This is a Tor Freebie I found in between books, and I’m really glad I gave this a shot. The world this is set in has a great murky apocalyptic feel to it, and the character tension was great! I may not have loved the ending, but overall this one’s a winner.

Short Story Review: Across the Dark Water

Next on my TBR:

Opinion so far:

Before I get to my future TBR I just want to say that I took a look at my Kindle and I’m nearly caught up with my purchases! I use the word ‘almost’ loosely, as there’s still maybe 10-15 books left on there I haven’t read, but that’s a heck of a lot better than where I was last year and I’m feeling good about it. That being said, my physical unread piles at home are about the same as some months ago, so I will start to focus more on those rather than my Kindle.

Up next on the TBR is The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I loved the movie to death, so I’m really excited about this one! I have a physical copy at home that I bought from Half Price Books maybe two years ago. I know, the shame of it all! If I love this book enough I may binge the series, but the books following this one on this post will be my next considerations most likely.

After that I’ll be reading One If: A Virago Fantasy by Carol Allen. I bought an ebook copy of this after seeing my friend Teri Polen’s review. This has been collecting dust for at least several months, so it’s time to give it a proper read through. I mean, being taken to a weird planet? I’m so there! Actually, does Southwest have any space flights right now? Get me outta here!

Last but not least is A Properly Unhaunted Place by William Alexander. This is another physical copy at home, and I’ve missed reading more YA/Middle Grade since I finished Animorphs, so I am really curious about this one. Plus, it looks spooky! Can’t get much better than that!

All right peeps, that’s my current reading journey. Best of luck on yours!

That’s a Wrap!

Okay folks, that’s my WWW Wednesday for this week.

What does your reading pile look like? Have you read any of the books on my list? Do you have any opinions or feedback on the books I chose? Feel free to share in the comments, and don’t forget to subscribe or follow my bookish journeys!

  1. I can’t wait to see your thoughts on Sorcery of Thorns and The Darkest Minds.

I had 5 books left on my February TBR at the start of the week 3 of which I had already started. I have now finished The Dark Tower by Stephen King and Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies by Laura Stampler.

My goal now is to get through Taming the Rake, Reign of a King and A Court of Mist and Fury by Sunday.

    • Thanks! I just picked up the book version of Thorns because audiobooks just aren’t for me right now.

Oh cool! What did you think of Dark Tower? Yay or nay?

      Dang, get it friend!

      • I used to not like audiobooks but now I can’t live without them.

Umm… I’m somewhere in the middle leaning more toward nay though lol.

I don’t have to finish any of them but I put them on my TBR and I want to finish them so I like pushing myself.

      • I can see how they are advantageous for some but I’m super ocd, so if my eyes were open I’d be thinking about things I needed to do. But when I close my eyes and listen I get so comfy I nearly fall asleep.

Haha, that’s totally fine. I bet it was a bit longer than it needed to be. Come on, King! Keep it succinct!

I’m all for pushing yourself! You can do this. 🙂

      • Yeah I used to not be able to focus on audiobooks so I’ve started listening to them while I color or do my nails but my favorite way is to listen while following along in the book.

Yeah it was definitely too many books.

        Thank you!!

      • I agree! The narrator wasnt bad for Thorns but I needed visual stimuli to focus on, the best being a copy of the book to read along with.

You’ll get there, it just takes time. Looking forward to seeing more of your reviews. 🙂

      • Usually the narrator doesn’t really play a part in whether or not I like a book because I listen to my audiobooks at 2x speed.

Thank you as soon as I finish these 3 I will be posting more.

      • Oh I didnt know I could do that! It was going a little slow at normal speed so I felt like I was never gonna finish the book.

        Woohoo, cant wait!

      • Me and my husband both bought a pair from Verizon. I can’t remember the brand but they cost like $50 each. Mine worked once and the next time I tried to use them one side wouldn’t work at all. My husbands lasted him much longer but his have now stopped working.
