Alright, so I bet you’re dying to know what I think of this one. Keep on reading to find out!
Prom Night. The last hurrah before college. Brandon and Ed are the chaperons for the LandsEnd High School Senior Prom, hosted at the LandsEnd Yacht Club. Its a night of dreams until the ground shakes and flashes of light brighten the sky, knocking out everything electrical, casting the dance into darkness. Cut off and alone, the adults and the students have to figure out what to do and what’s happening. Worryingly, what’s that strange clicking sound off in the distance that seemed to scare off the animals?
I’ve always enjoyed reading Neu’s work, and this suspenseful short story is no exception.
LandsEnd is about a prom night that happens at a yacht club. Brandon and Ed are overseeing the event and making sure things go off without a hitch when a bizarre light in the sky goes off, affecting all the electricity nearby. Unsure what to do, Ed and Brandon are forced to take charge of the situation and get to the bottom of things.
This was a lot of fun!
So first off, the premise really intrigued me. Creepy power outage? Weird lights in the sky? Sign me up! The element of suspense is fairly prevalent throughout and I enjoyed the tension it gave to the story.
I also liked the parallel timeline that was explored too. There’s a big event from the past that is referenced, and it was really fascinating to me.
I enjoyed how strong of a couple Brandon and Ed were. They were both scared, but were pillars for each other, and that really made them shine in a short time.
The only complaint (if you want to even call it that) is that I wanted more. I wanted to learn more about the past, the present, and see what might happen in the future. Perhaps M.D. Neu has more to show us? Only time will tell!
If you like suspense, give this a go!
That’s A Wrap!
Well that’s it for this short story review. I hope you enjoyed it!
