Book Review: Hedgehogs

Happy Sunday Bookworms!

I hope you’re having a great weekend and got enough time to relax and do some self care.

Today I’m sharing another book review!

This time it’s the horror novella Hedgehogs by Iseult Murphy.

I received a copy of this novella as a bonus for preordering Iseult’s recent release All of Me (check out my review here). The individual release of this book doesn’t happen until August, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add it to your TBR now. Go on, do it. I triple dog dare you!

I’m a big fan of Iseult’s work, so I had high expectations. Keep on reading to find out if those expectations were met!

Blurb

Your garden is their battleground.

After a new pesticide turns hedgehogs into flesh hungry maniacs, Henry must seek the help of a fox, a cat and a mouse if he’s to survive the night of the living hogs.

A Romero x Animals of Farthing Wood mashup like you’ve never read before.

The Review

I absolutely loved this horror novella!

I’m a diehard fan of Iseult Murphy, and she really knocked it out of the ballpark with this one.

In a nutshell, a group of heroic animals must join forces when a mysterious substance creates a horde of undead hedgehogs.

I think what really set this story apart was the characters. Harry the hedgehog was a great MC, and quite a surprising one at that. I came into this read thinking the MC would be human, but having a hedgehog was so much better! Being in Harry’s POV felt so authentic, and it’s very clear to me that Murphy did her homework as to the limitations of hedgehogs as an animal and what their actions and thought process would be.

I also loved all the other great supporting characters. Cassie was obviously my favorite because I am obsessed with cats, but Tina the mouse, Roy the fox, and Merry the dog were great too! They embodied the attitude and demeanor of their animal spirit flawlessly.

Plot was the central focus here with a possible undead hedgehog apocalypse, and I was living for it! And that ending? Obviously I’m not going to tell you what happens, but it was gold!

If you’re hankering for a great and unique horror story, this is the one to pick up!

That’s A Wrap!

Well that’s it for this book review. I hope you enjoyed it!

Have you read this book? Are there other similar books you’ve read that you simply have to gush about? Feel free to leave a comment. I’d love to start a conversation!

Have a great day!
