Short Story Review: Doomed Dune
Hello Readers!
Man it’s been a hectic last couple of weeks. I recently moved into a temporary living situation for the next month and some change, then my bf and I will finally get to live together (it’s a LONG story). That on top of Crypticon (click here if you wanna check that out) made it even busier, but sooo worth it!
Alright, so my recently related read to this review was Please Return to the Lands of Luxury by Jon Tilton (my review here if you’re interested).
I absolutely loved it, so I went snooping around his website and found out that he has at least two more books planned in the series! Isn’t that great? Also, I found that a short story called Doomed Dune that is set in the same universe was available to any email subscribers. You better believe I hit that subscribe button! You can do the same here for a free read.
Since I loved my first read of Tilton’s, I had very high hopes for this quick read. Did it blow me away like the other book? Let’s find out!

The Review
I had a lot of fun with this short story.
In a nutshell, it focuses on a young girl Melina and her experiences in Yarborough Ridge, an island covered in mountains of trash. For some time, one of Melina’s friends has gone missing, and it’s rumored that a foreboding trash heap called Doomed Dune has something to do with it. When Melina goes to check it out, she embarks on a journey of self discovery.
This story is set in the world of Please Return to the Lands of Luxury (and occurs before the events of that book, just as an FYI), and having loved that novel it’s not surprising that I enjoyed myself here as well.
Melina is a curious young girl, but she can be a little selfish at times. Her progression was nice to see, and I enjoyed the moral of sharing even when you may not have much to share. A lot of youngsters can learn from this message.
I also really loved the character cameos from the other book. Jane, Timothy, and Rodney are all there, and their characters stayed true to themselves.
The plot was relatively simple, and while I may have wanted something a little more substantial this was still very entertaining. The mystery behind the Doomed Dune and core themes of friendship made this story hard to put down. I loved this little tale, and if you liked Please Return to the Lands of Luxury or just want a quick lighthearted read, you should give this a go!
That’s A Wrap!
Well that’s it for this book review. I hope you enjoyed it!
Have you read this book? Are there other similar books you’ve read that you simply have to gush about? Feel free to leave a comment. I’d love to start a conversation!
Have a great day!
