Greetings Interdimensional Travelers,

How are ya? If you’re like most of the US right now, then no doubt you’re feeling the heat of summer a bit early. There’s a terrible heat dome that’s affecting most of us, but the boyfriend and I have already transitioned to summer mode. That means keeping the curtains closed as much as possible to keep out the heat and save some on our energy bill.

Naturally, being stuck inside means more reading!

Today I’m sharing my review of The Silver Dream (InterWorld #2) by Neil Gaiman and Michael Reaves.

I loved the first book (book review link below) despite some quips, so I jumped right into the sequel expecting another epic YA adventure. On to the book review!

The Review

Second verse, same as the first! I gave this awesome book four phenomenal stars.

Joey has made his way back into the good graces of InterWorld after a major heroic feat. However, after rescuing some new para-incarnations of himself from other worlds, the impossible happens. Someone has arrived at InterWorld that isn’t a version of him. As the strange new guest turns heads and raises questions, a series of strange events put InterWorld on lockdown. A saboteur is at work!

This series just keeps getting better and better. Like before, I loved the world hopping and various iterations of Joey, and that world is fleshed out even more in this one. It was very exciting, and I blazed through the pages quickly.

Joey has really come a long way, and he continues to do so in this book. He’s learning to question things that seem odd, and at the same time the weight of war wears heavily on his shoulders when things start to pick up. Hue is still a great sidekick but didn’t get as much focus this time around. Still love that little bubble MDLF!

This time the plot had a distinct element of mystery as Joey and others try to figure out who is behind the sabotage of certain events that take place, and I loved that. I thought I knew everything from the beginning, but there was a surprise or two, so I’m glad it wasn’t too predictable. Of course, there was plenty of great scifi and fantasy action scenes throughout, all leading up to a stunning conclusion that had my heart pumping.

I do have the same complaints as last time that the book’s vocab is too advanced for younger readers and that some of the actions taken where hard to understand, but overall this was very solid and a great follow up.
