Book Review: Suckerville

Hello Readers!

Man, I’ve been in something of a reading slump over the past week. I’ve been waiting on a library ebook copy for nearly two months for a buddy read, and despite trying out some Goosebumps, I just wasn’t vibing. So I went on Amazon and found a KU book to try out!

This post is my book review for Suckerville by Chris Sorensen.

The second I saw this cover I just had to read the book. I haven’t read a creature feature in a while, and since that’s one of my favorite kinds of horror novels I was practically frothing at the mouth to rip into this one.

How did the read go? Let’s find out!

A CREATURE FEATURE WITH TEETH…

JD Speers is having a stretch of bad luck: his wife left him, the law is on his tail, and to top it all off, bloodsucking leech people are attacking his favorite bar. Together with his buddy Rowdy and the barflies of Doc’s Dockside Tavern, JD must stop the suckers before they spread their contagion up and down the Mississippi River.

“With Suckerville, Sorensen crafts a masterful tale that rips and roars its way through 80’s Monster Movies and survive-at-all-costs horror fiction in a way that’ll have readers salivating!”
– Steve Stred, 2X Splatterpunk-Nominated author of Mastodon , Father of Lies and Churn the Soil

“This is the most fun I’ve had with a book in a long time. Wonderful characters, disgusting gore and violence and a sense of humour that had me smiling like a loon.”
– Kendall Reviews

” Gritty. Irreverent. Action-packed. Spine-tingling. A rush of visceral adjectives come to mind when reading Chris Sorensen’s Suckerville .”
– Nick Sullivan, author of Zombie Bigfoot

The Review

Man, I’m never gonna think of leeches the same way again!

This creature feature was amazing and packed with high-octane action from start to finish.

In a small town, residents suddenly find themselves prey to a predator they never expected. JD, local screw up, wants to turn his life around, but every scheme he hatches just makes things worse. When he witnesses a surreal gory scene after a car crash, his world spins out of control and he’ll have to man up if he wants to survive the night and rescue his fellow citizens.

Not being very familiar with this author, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun this read was.

JD was a fun protagonist to follow along. He’s stubborn, impulsive, and not the brightest crayon in the box. It’s refreshing given how most stories have protagonists with much better backgrounds. I also really liked all the other characters like Rowdy, Hailey, and Trudy. They all felt real with their interactions and responses, and I’d definitely have a drink with them if I wanted a crazy night.

I’m a sucker for creature features, and I absolutely loved the monsters of the story! There was nonstop action, drama, and epic fails that kept me interested. There were also some good laughs sprinkled in thanks to how campy things were, and it meshed well with the horror. Believe me, it’s hard to pull off!

I have zero complaints with this amazing book. If you’re a fan of Jeff Strand, Tony Urban, or just like some fast-paced horror with a body count, this book is for you!

That’s A Wrap!

Well that’s it for this book review. I hope you enjoyed it!
