Movie Review: Companion (2025)

Howdy Moviegoers!
It’s a brand new month, and that means more reviews! Honestly, the boyfriend and I have been watching older TV shows lately, but we decided to take a chance on a movie and settled on Companion.
I hadn’t heard much about this movie, only that it was a recent release and some kind of genre mashup. It’s currently available to rent on Amazon Prime and Apple TV, but the price is still a bit hefty at the time of this posting, so you may want to wait it out a bit.
Alright, let’s see how this movie went!

The Review

Loved it!
Companion was a great movie and a unique blend of comedy, horror, and scifi.
Our main characters are Iris and Josh. They’ve been together since meeting at a grocery store in a romantic way and are reconnecting with some friends at a remote home rental. However, it soon becomes clear that there is more than meets the eye with one of the individuals present when chaos erupts and the body count begins.
I was a little nervous giving this a try, but the first few minutes sold me. The production value was great, and I was instantly intrigued by shy Iris and handsome Josh. I wasn’t quite sure where the horror would come from, so I spent the first thirty minutes trying to piece things together. The dialogue between the characters gave subtle hints that made a ton of sense later on. It was really nice, since I can guess the hook and ending of a film pretty easily in most cases.
I also really liked the themes of feminism, AI, and autonomy throughout. There was a nice buildup before the action started happening, and after stuff hits the fan it was a thrill ride I really enjoyed with some comedy scattered throughout.
This movie really had a bit of everything, and it left me feeling grateful I gave it a chance. I’d definitely watch this one again, so if you want a funny, creepy, and action-packed film, give it a chance!
That’s A Wrap!
