Book Review: Immunity (Contagion #2)

Howdy Intergalactic Explorers,

I hope you’ve all been doing well. I’ve been extremely busy lately with taking steps towards moving into a new home with my partner, along with working on the audiobook files for The Ruins and final edits on my upcoming short story Overlord, so to say I’m busy is an understatement.

I’ve been lagging on my reading, but today I’m happy to share my reading experience on Immunity (Contagion #2) by Erin Bowman.

I absolutely loved the first book (review link below if you’re catching up), so I didn’t waste any time in starting this sequel. Let’s see how it went!

Book Review: Contagion (Contagion #1)

Blurb

Survivors of a deadly planetary outbreak take on a new, sinister adversary in the white-knuckle sequel to Contagion.

Thea, Coen, and Nova have escaped from Achlys, only to find themselves imprisoned on a ship they thought was their ticket to safety. Now the nightmare they thought they’d left behind is about to be unleashed as an act of political warfare, putting the entire galaxy at risk.

To prevent an interstellar catastrophe, they’ll have to harness the evil of the deadly Achlys contagion and deploy the only weapons they have left: themselves.

Fans of Jonathan Maberry, Rick Yancey, and Madeleine Roux will relish Bowman’s tense, high-stakes conclusion to the events of contagion.

The Review

This sequel was sooo good!

Thea, Coen, and Nova have escaped the deadly situation on Achlys, but find themselves on a ship run by Radicals aimed at forcing the Trios’ independence by any means necessary. As they are subjected to torturous experiments and scrutiny, they’ll have to band together if they want to find a way out of their situation and prevent the deadly contagion from spreading.

What really appealed to me with this read was the expansion of the universe building. Rather than being stuck on just one planet throughout the entire novel, this book takes places in many different places and builds on the first book. That was really satisfying, and I loved all the different vibes each location gave.

Each chapter moved quickly and kept me engaged with all the discoveries and desperate actions the MCs took. This one took a shift on the type of horror present, but it was still very captivating. Trigging warning for torture! There were some scenes that were a little hard to read because I didn’t want anything terrible to happen to these heroes, but it was so worth it in the end.

Thea, Coen, and Nova each had a lot of great progression. Thea and Coen primarily tackle their increasing bond, while Nova deals with how to move on from Dylan and her feelings for a new love interest. Oh, and Bowman is great at crafting formidable villains!

Honestly, this duology is all that and a bag of chips, so if you haven’t given this series a try do yourself a favor and try it out!
