My 1st Book Haul of 2026!

Hi Bookworms!

I’ve been on a self-imposed book buying ban for some time now, but in the past few months I’ve been making steady progress with my physical TBR on my shelves at home, so I figured I was overdue for a book haul.

QOTD: Have you bought any books lately? What were they?

For this book haul I visited two places, Trailhead Books in Raytown, MO and Half Price Books. Trailhead Books is an indie bookstore, so if you love a good read and live in the Kansas City area, please consider stopping by and showing them support by buying some great reads!

Below are the books I found between these two book stores and I am so excited! I’m trying to read more physical books this year and only buy books that I know I have a strong interest in. Let me know what you think!

Anya’s Ghost – I’ve been needing some new graphic novels to read and recently added this one to my TBR. Imagine my surprise when I saw it. I had to have it immediately!

The Troop – I haven’t read anything by this author despite their growing fame in horror, and I love a good camp themed horror story. Can’t wait to read this in warmer temps!

The Fear Zone & Last Laugh – I’m a total fanboy when it comes to K.R. Alexander. Ever since I started reading his MG works I’ve been buying them up whenever I see them. I’ve got like 7 on my backlog now lol!

Crenshaw – KA Applegate is the genius behind Animorphs and many other great books. I recently read Willodeen and loved it, so I snatched this one right up!

The Lost Years – The author is my friend and a total sweetheart. I was totally shocked to see her books in the wild and had to have it!

Fever 1793 – This has been on my TBR for some time now and the distinct haunting cover just drew me in. Done and done!

Monument 14 – At first I wasn’t sure of this one, but when I saw the words YA and apocalypse together, I was sold!

  1. The first haul after a buying ban is the best! Also, I love camp horror too but idk if I can handle The Troop. There’s something about parasites that gets me. Give me all the slasher and paranormal horror but I can’t do bugs. I am interested to see your thoughts though.

    • Right? I only went to two stores so I wouldn’t go nuts, and I still had a sizeable haul. Oh, for sure! Parasites freak me the hell out too in a real life situation. I’m just so desensitized from all the horror I ingest daily lol. As long as it’s fiction I’m okay!

  2. I’ve been wanting to read Crenshaw, so I’ll be looking forward to your review on that! As for me, I’ve been raiding the Little Free Libraries around the neighborhood and spending way too much time adding books to my Wishlist on Libby!!

    • Thanks! Applegate’s newer stuff just gives all the warm fuzzy vibes so I can wait to dig in. Oh, that’s so cool! I know of some Little Free Libraries in my area but it’s been really cold so I’ve been holding off. We’re about to have a big snowstorm!

  3. Creepy clowns. I should probably do a book buying ban but I know I would immediately fail. I have no shelf control 😂 I hope you enjoy all of these.

    • Right? The spookiness kind of took over this book haul lol. Haha, shelf control! Good one. Me too!

      • I don’t have self control either when it comes to books but I thought shelf control was fitting 😆
