Book Review: UnSouled (Unwind #3)

Hello all you lovely bookworms!

I hope you’re enjoying a nice start to the new year so far. I’m really loving the lack of book events and how much I’ve been concentrating on writing and reading. Speaking of which, it’s time for another book review!

Continuing my read of the Unwind series, today is all about UnSouled (Unwind #3) by Neal Shusterman.

I have absolutely adored each book so far (links below if you need to catch up!), and I recently got my used physical copies in the mail of the last two books!

I was so worried I wouldn’t get the right cover edition, but they’re perfect! Okay, enough fanboying from me. On to the review!

Blurb

Teens fight for their humanity in this thrilling third book in the New York Times bestselling Unwind Dystology series by Neal Shusterman.

Connor and Lev are on the run after the destruction of the Graveyard, the last safe haven for AWOL unwinds. But for the first time, they’re not just running away—they’re running towards answers, in the form of a woman Proactive Citizenry has tried to erase from history itself. If they can find her and learn why the shadowy figures behind unwinding are so afraid of her, they may discover the key to ending the unwinding process forever.

Cam, the rewound boy, is plotting to take down the organization that created him. He knows that if he can bring Proactive Citizenry to its knees, it will show Risa how he truly feels about her. And without Risa, Cam is having trouble remembering what it feels like to be human.

With the Juvenile Authority and vindictive parts pirates hunting them, the group’s paths will converge explosively—and everyone will be changed.

The Review

Loved it!

After facing even more terrible losses, Connor, Lev, and Risa are separated and on the run. As they go along their journeys they find a spark of hope in a possible end to Unwinding. But with no idea who this person is and how they can reach them, they’ll have to dig deeper than ever if they want to survive long enough to overthrow the Unwinding technology that threatens them all.

I just adore how complex this series’ universe is. With each book, what I’ve learned is more and more disturbing, and this one is no different. Mad props to Shusterman on his excellent dystopian worldbuilding.

Connor, Lev, and Risa continue to surprise me. I used to loathe Lev at the beginning, but he’s my favorite character now due to how his journey has uniquely affected him. Each of these great characters have gone through so much already, and they continue to have more great character progression that keeps you hooked to every page.

Every chapter was fast paced and filled with new developments. I felt drawn in from beginning to end, and I enjoyed building my knowledge of the mysterious person they are seeking out as bits of information come through.

You really can’t go wrong with this series. Highly recommend!
