Writing Update

Hi Blogosphere!

I’m back from my writer’s retreat, and boy do we have a lot of catching up to do so let’s get started!

As you may or may not know, I am currently working on the first draft of the sequel to The Ruins (think urban fantasy/paranormal vibes). Since my book events freed up in December 2025 I’ve been working hard on this labor of love.

QOTD for writers/authors: How are your current writing projects going?

Writing Update

Before the retreat, I had this story plotted out in detail through Chapter 19, but I had only written through Chapter 12, meaning I had a lot of work to do! My writer’s retreat was just three days, so I set a decent goal of writing out one chapter a day. I met my goal!

I wrote three chapters and a little extra, totaling 8,000 words (around 32 pages). My current word count for the novel is 40,000 words (around 160 pages), and I will continue to hit the ground running.

In fact, I will most likely be going on another writer’s retreat on Good Friday (April 3 this year), since my employer allows us to take floating holidays off. This will allow me to crank out those words as fast as possible.

The end goal of this project is to publish the sequel to The Ruins sometime this year if at all possible, and while that’s going to be a hard goal to meet, I’m putting in as much effort as I can to make that a reality.

That leaves me on Chapter 16 of the writing phase at the moment, but there are also some changes I need to make from the beginning through Chapter 12 of what was previously written, as I’ve simplified some things.

I’ve got quite a workload ahead of me, but I’m so excited that this story is blossoming into something I can be proud of! Wish me luck, and I hope to have some more exciting updates for you soon!
