Book Review: Baby’s Breath

Howdy booksters!
Did you ever take a class in high school where you had to take care of a battery operated baby?
Now think a lot of shades darker and you get Baby’s Breath by A.D. Aro.
A.D. is one of my friends I made in the past few months on Insta, and I’m glad I did! When I heard about this new book of his I just had to see what his writing is like.
Let’s see how this 90s-themed YA thriller went!
Blurb
Hush Little Baby…
It’s senior year, and all Sabrina wants to do is live it up and shed her goody-goody image. Parties, boys, cruising with friends—it’s all on her to-do list. Taking care of a baby is absolutely not in her plans.
But Mrs. Pike, who has returned to teach after a two-year leave of absence, has specifically chosen Sabrina as the first candidate to nurture the battery-operated infant for a health class requirement. So much for living it up! Sabrina should be careful, because it seems there is more at stake than just her grade.
Someone is keeping a close eye on her… Someone who would kill to see Sabrina be the best mother…
Is there evil lurking within the baby doll, or is it under Sabrina’s skin?

The Review

I love, love, loved this book!
Sabrina leads a charmed life. She’s pretty, smart, and is determined to graduate at the head of her class in her final year of high school. Excited for homecoming, her dreams of a perfect year are dashed when her teacher Ms. Pike assigns a project where she has to take care of a battery operated baby. The baby is anything but normal, and as Sabrina becomes convinced she’s being stalked she’ll have to figure out who her stalker is before it’s too late.
I loved all the elements of this book. This is a 90s-themed horror thriller, but it had a lot of great humor along the way. The writing was simple and easy to blaze through, and each chapter moved the plot along at a nice fast pace.
I really vibed with Sabrina. Her mentality of senior year and concerns on the future felt real, and I remember feeling the exact same way when I was her age. I also really loved Rachel and Christopher as characters. At first appearance they may seem a little cliche, but they show a lot more depth as things get more and more harrowing.
I’m so glad I gave this a chance and can’t wait to read more from this author. Highly recommend!
That’s A Wrap!
