Hello Angels, Demons, and Everything Between,

How’s your summer going? My boyfriend and I have been doing some small events, but we are definitely not summer people and Missouri is notoriously humid. I need some pool time stat!

Speaking of hellish things, today’s post is all about Great Divide by Vanessa Kramer.

I got this book of hers quite some time ago, but my author reading rotation has been extremely large this year, so I was excited to finally get around to this. The theme is angels and demons, and I just love a good vs. evil battle.

The Review

I had a ton of fun with this novel!

Emma hasn’t had it easy. Her numerous health conditions make it extremely difficult for her to function in society. That is, until she meets Alastor. After an accident brings them together, her whole world changes and she falls deeply in love. They vow to be together forever, but when her health rapidly spirals Emma must fight for her love until her death and beyond.

I love a good versus evil novel, and this was exactly what I was hoping for. I don’t want to spoil much, but angels and demons are a prominent theme, and Kramer’s world was unique and easy to get drawn into.

Emma is a complex character. Her health condition has forced her into a box, but she yearns to be free. I think a lot of readers can relate to that both literally and metaphorically, and it was tough seeing all the terrible developments along the way. Emma is courageous, even if she doesn’t always seem the most grateful for the small wins along her journey. Alastor was really intriguing as the love interest, and I especially loved Sam’s character.

The pacing was really interesting. It starts up moderately paced and at a certain point the plot picks up to a more rapid pace that I really enjoyed. It really kept me hooked to the page, and I loved discovering more about the tense world Kramer has constructed. If you like angels, demons, or just a well executed dark fantasy I recommend this read!
