Movie Review – Ma
Hi there everyone,
How’s everything going on your end? Good I hope!
Today’s post is another movie review, this time Ma, a horror/thriller starring Octavia Spencer.
I’ve been a huge fan of Octavia Spencer for quite some time, and I saw an advertisment months ago and simply had to see this movie!
So, what did I think? Well, let’s jump into this review and find out!
Movie Blurb:
A lonely woman befriends a group of teenagers and decides to let them party at her house. Just when the kids think their luck couldn’t get any better, things start happening that make them question the intention of their host.
My Review:
I had a lot of fun watching this movie, and while I can’t say I absolutely loved it, there were plenty of great things here.
For starters, the character Ma was fleshed out really well. Throughout the movie, we get to understand why she is the way she is, and it made some sense to me.
While the teenagers and other characters in this movie were a tad cliché for my liking, Ma made up for their predictable personalities.
I also enjoyed how simple the story was in concept as well as how entertaining it was. I obviously can’t say much because I would spoil things, but it was a very easy watch and not super heavy on gore, making it great for people that don’t usually watch horror. Sure, things kind of followed a predictable path from beginning to end, but it was still very enjoyable.
One big gripe I have to make would have to be the ending. Things just kind of cut off too soon without an epilogue if you ask me. Still, the overall experience was a good one, so I’m not too mad about it.
All in all, Ma is a interesting horror movie with teenage drama, hormones, and a healthy dose of stalkery that will keep the blood pumping. Though it’s not perfect, it’s still a great entertaining film. My score for this movie is 6/10.

I can still enjoy a 6/10 movie. It’s when they get stupid and 4/10 that I turn off the video! O Spencer is a good actress!
Yeah, a 6 is totally doable. It’s not perfect, but what is, right?
I absolutely love O Spencer, especially in The Help. So amazing!
Ma was a surprisingly funny horror film that took some movie tropes and skewered them!
It was definitely a fun ride!
