Series Review – Channel Zero, Season One (Shudder)

Happy Friday Dear Friends,

Today let’s take a little walk on the darker side of things, this time around with Channel Zero.

channel zero

I knew about this show back when it came out on the Syfy channel, but never got the time to take a watch.

Basically, this show took famous creepypastas from online and re-enacted the events of them. I haven’t personally heard of any of the creepypastas this show is based off of, but I’m a huge fan of anything scary.

When I saw all seasons of this show were available on Shudder, I just knew I had to do it.

Boy am I glad I did!

Movie Blurb:

An anthology series based on popular Internet Creepypastas Candle Cove, The No-End House, Butcher’s Block, and The Dream Door.

My Review:

Man, this first season was creepy as hell!

We start the first episode and are introduced to the main character, a child psychologist Mike Painter, that returns to his hometown of Iron Hill to find out what happened to his brother when they were kids.

You see, his brother disappeared many years ago, and so did several other kids around the time when an eerie show called Candle Cove came on.

Shortly after Mike’s return to Iron Hill, strange happenings begin to occur again and children start to go missing. Is there a connection here? Is Candle Cove coming back again, or is he simply losing his marbles?

I have to say, after watching this season, puppet cartoons will never be the same!

This show was creepy, ALL CAPS!

To start, this series was super easy to get into. The plot is intriguing. Knowing that all these kids went missing once upon a time, I had to know what really happened and if this creepy show was really to blame for it.

There were plenty of great, scary plot turns that had me on the edge of my seat. I was hooked!

I really liked the cast of characters. Mike, his girlfriend from his childhood, her arrogant husband, the list could go on. These characters all felt real to me and each had a decent amount of depth.

And of course, Candle Cove would be nothing without those damned creepy puppets! Man, every time the TV turned on automatically I swear a tingle went down my spine. This TV show seriously messed with kids heads, instructing them to go to dark places and do strange things. There’s something about it that is just fundamentally horrifying.

Mystery, chills, thrills, with a tiny dash of romance make this show a great addition for any fan of horror. It’s no wonder that I’m giving this first season an 8.5/10.
