Movie Review – Hereditary (Amazon Prime)
Hey Everyone,
How goes it? I’m doing pretty schnazzy if I do say so myself.
Let’s talk about some more great movies!
For today’s feature, we have Hereditary, starring Toni Collette.
Now, I haven’t had a chance to gush about my girl Toni, but I have pretty much watched everything she’s been in since the beginning. Muriel’s Wedding, In Her Shoes, I just love her acting skills.
She’s simply phenomenal, and that doesn’t change with this film.
Let’s get into it, shall we?
Movie Blurb:
When her mentally ill mother passes away, a woman named Annie (Toni Collette) and her husband (Gabriel Byrne), son (Alex Wolff) and daughter (Milly Shapiro) all mourn her loss. The family turn to different means to handle their grief, including Annie and her daughter both flirting with the supernatural. They each begin to have disturbing, otherworldly experiences linked to the sinister secrets and emotional trauma that have been passed through the generations of their family.
My Review:
Wow, I mean, WOW, was I impressed with this film!
If you are into gritty, bleak movies that fully emphasize the genre of horror, then this is for you!
We start off with Toni Collette’s character mourning the loss of her mother. Things were very strained with them, and you could feel that. There was a lot about her mother that Toni simply doesn’t know from them being estranged.
Shortly after this loss, the family suffers another huge loss, and slowly the audience begins to wonder if there is perhaps more at play here than meets the eye.
Of course there is, but I can’t tell you and spoil the fun, now can I?
This movie was great, through and through.
The family is pretty dysfunctional, and each character has their own quirks and things that drive them. Each character is unique, my favorite of course being Toni’s character as well as the daughter because of how strange she was during the film.
The element of mystery kept my eyes glued to the screen, and there were many an eerie scene that really creeped me out or shocked me.
But most of all, this movie captured the true element of horror. It was dark and kept me wondering what was really going on the entire time, and its rare that we get those kind of movies in my opinion.
I seriously enjoyed every second of this film, and can’t recommend it enough! That’s why I give Hereditary a score of 9/10.

Not many things surprise me in movies, but one part (no spoilers from me) honestly caused my mouth to drop open. I also gave this one a thumbs up, Jonny.
Yeah, this one was amazing and definitely one I’ll watch again, but maybe during the daytime. So scary!
