Plot was strong, original, and well executed.

Flow

From scene to scene I was captivated. Everything ran extremely smooth the entire time.

Overall Impression

I have not read this book by Joe Hill just yet, and ironically when I first saw the show was available on Shudder late last year, I passed it up. Months later when I saw it I freaked and binged the whole thing in a few days.

The first season of this show was everything I could’ve hoped for. Action, mystery, superhuman abilities. Check, check, check! The main characters Vic McQueen and Maggie had me rooting for them the entire time, while Zachary Quinto played a great villain, just like he did as Sylar in the series Heroes.

The plot had me hooked. Missing kids? Creepy vampire dude? Other supernaturals trying to figure out their powers while trying to do the right thing? Sign me up! Each episode had stunning revelations that had me on the edge of my seat and really made the binge watch possible.

Flow was great, even when we went to less popular characters like Bing, who I personally despised pretty much the entire time for what he was doing.

All in all, this is the show to watch, and I cannot wait for the second season to come out in June! Happy watching everyone. Definitely give this a chance if you are an AMC or Shudder subscriber!

Final Score

9/10

  1. I’ve been wanting to read this one for a while, might have to pick it up. I’ve read one Joe Hill book (Heart-Shaped Box) which I felt very mixed on but definitely want to give him another try. 🙂 Great review!

    • Yeah, now that I’ve seen the first season I absolutely have to get my hands on this, most likely around christmas as it has a tinge of a christmas theme to it. Horror xmas forever!
