Series Review: NOS4A2, Season Two (Shudder)

Series Blurb:

Charlie Manx, a seductive immortal who feeds off the souls of children, has his whole world threatened when a young woman in New England discovers she has a dangerous gift.

My Review:

After a stellar first season, I couldn’t wait to watch this one. Overall I was happy with the experience but several things made the first season better in my opinion.

A number of years after the conclusion of the first season, Vic lives happily with Lou and her son. But when she discovers Charlie Manx is dead, she has to know for sure herself. But soon after, she begins to question whether he really is dead, or if someone has brought him back to life.

This second season was a lot of fun. I love the character of Vic McQueen and the damage her former battles with Manx has done to her psychologically. I also enjoyed Vic with Lou, and think they made a good team since he knew about everything that happened before.

The plot was interesting overall, and certain things were fleshed out a bit more, like Christmasland. It was entertaining exploring its depths and Manx’s duplicitous past. However, I did find some of the action a bit redundant. We’re dealing with the same evil as the first season, and though we explore more about the villain this time, his methods are largely the same. It didn’t quite get stale, but close for me. I also didn’t necessarily enjoy the ending from several characters’ viewpoints.

All in all, this was a satisfying conclusion to a great series, and I’ll admit I’m a little sad that a third season was cancelled (article here). Definitely give this a shot if you enjoyed the first season!

Final Score

7/10
