Book Review: The Haunting of Lavender Raine (Lavender Raine #1)

Blurb

Something is lurking in Lavender’s local corn maze. But if it isn’t a ghost, what else could it be?

The last thing Lavender Raine wants to see is another ghost, so when her best friend Rosie drags her to a haunted corn maze, she’s less than thrilled. Lavender thinks the spooky story about the farm is fake. But when they enter the maze, weird things begin to happen. Broken flashlights, witchy laughter, that strange swishing noise in the corn—it’s all in their imaginations, right?

After getting lost in the dark field, a terrifying presence appears on the trail. Something sinister is stalking them, and it’s up to the girls to figure out what it wants. With some unexpected help, can Lavender and Rosie escape from the Field of Screams?

The Review

I have to say, this spooky middle grade series is really growing on me! I enjoyed this a bit more than the first book.

It’s been several months, and Lavender’s life is pretty much back to normal. That is, without the creepy shadow in her house that lurks about and causes mischief. The spooky happenings come to a crescendo when she and her bestie Rosie visit a local corn maze and encounter something they can’t explain. Will these two friends be able to triumph over this strange threat?

I love Halloween, and this book had all the fall vibes I love every year. The setting was great and spooky, and there were higher stakes and more paranormal action and adventure that kept me entertained from page to page. The haunts were definitely turned up a notch this time around!

I feel like I got to know Lavender a bit better in this book. She’s responsible for a young adult and she values trust and honesty in her friendships. She has some brief lessons of forgiveness and opening up to others, and it didn’t feel forced. Rosie was a great obnoxious sidekick, and though the adorable black kitty Blot wasn’t as prominent in this tale, a new friendship is established that I really loved.

If you need some light horror that all ages can get excited about, this is definitely a series to consider!

That’s A Wrap!

Well that’s it for this book review. I hope you enjoyed it!
