Book Review: UnDivided (Unwind #4)

Good Morning all you beautiful bookworms out there!

I’ve got to admit, with the state of the world right now my mental health hasn’t been all that great, but reading has always been a sanctuary for me. And that means I’ve been reading up a storm!

Lately I’ve been reading the Unwind series and today’s review is all about the final book, UnDivided (Unwind #4) by Neal Shusterman.

Shusterman has created such an amazing world with this series, and while I’m sad that it’s coming to an end with this book, I’m happy to free up some time for other reads.

If you need a catch up, review links of the previous books in this series are below, but let’s not waste any time and get right into the review!

Blurb

Teens control the fate of America in the fourth and final book in the New York Times bestselling Unwind dystology by Neal Shusterman.

Proactive Citizenry, the company that created Cam from the parts of unwound teens, has a plan: to mass produce rewound teens like Cam for military purposes. And below the surface of that horror lies another shocking level of intrigue: Proactive Citizenry has been suppressing technology that could make unwinding completely unnecessary. As Conner, Risa, and Lev uncover these startling secrets, enraged teens begin to march on Washington to demand justice and a better future.

But more trouble is brewing. Starkey’s group of storked teens is growing more powerful and militant with each new recruit. And if they have their way, they’ll burn the harvest camps to the ground and put every adult in them before a firing squad—which could destroy any chance America has for a peaceful future.

The Review

Man, what a finale!

As our beloved team of UnWinds face ever increasing odds, they must find a way to dismantle the system as their resources diminish and new laws threaten to intensify the danger they all face.

Getting to this point in the series was cathartic. My main takeaway from the morals emphasized in this series is that life is precious regardless of whose life it is. It does not belong to anyone else, and every single person has a right to live in peace without needless persecution. It’s easy to see these UnWinds in ourselves given the injustice we see around us today.

I wasn’t surprised that our main characters once again pulled at my heartstrings. Connor, Risa, and Lev all have their part to play in the final stretch of their journey, and they are put to the ultimate test in different ways that really made them three dimensional and real. I’m really going to miss these characters!

I’ve got whiplash from the plot of this book! Shusterman is a master at keeping you at the edge of your seat. Each chapter had fast-moving developments, mystery, and an increasing sense of desperation that had me worried from the beginning through the end. He even surprised me with a few extra tricks up his sleeve that I didn’t see coming.

I applaud Shusterman for creating such a rich world that carries an important message of hope and determination against insurmountable odds. Highly, highly recommend this series!
