Book Review: Monster Blood For Breakfast! (Goosebumps HorrorLand #3)

Hey Spook Lovers,
Are you ready for another book review? I sure hope so, because today I’m reviewing the creepy Monster Blood For Breakfast! (Goosebumps HorrorLand #3) by R.L. Stine.
My book buddy Misty and I are reading this series together. We’re a little disappointed so far, but I went into this with high hopes. This blog post is my individual review, then I’ll have a separate post where Misty and I gab about our experience. Sound good?
Okay, on to the review!

The Review

Oh man, this one really fell off the rails for me.
Matt is a popular kid at school. He’s on the swim team and has the brains to win the science fair. That is, if his frenemy Bradley would stop ruining all his plans. When Bradley orders a strange substance called Monster Blood to get big and strong like Matt, Matt manages to thwart his plans, but not without consequence. Can Matt get rid of this Monster Blood before his whole life falls apart?
For the positives, Stine created perhaps the most hated character I’ve come across in his books so far in Bradley. This little pathological liar and cheat had my blood boiling the entire time. That kid needs some serious therapy if you ask me! I also liked how bizarre the Monster Blood was.
Something that really irked me with this book was the amount of times interruption was used to stop Matt from making others see sense in the situation. He was interrupted left and right to the point where it felt like the interruptions were a plot device. I also felt that the hiding of certain things regarding the Monster Blood felt too unbelievable in a real world scenario, enough to where I was shaking my head at some parts. Oh, and lots of bad parenting.
Matt as a character wasn’t bad, nor was his sister Livvy, but I wanted a lot more from this read. If I’m being honest, the HorrorLand section of the book was far better than the main story presented.
That’s A Wrap!
Well that’s it for this book review. Like what you see? Leave a tip!
