Book Review: Escape

Hey Bookish Friends!
Don’t you just love the escapism that comes with reading? Honestly it’s what is keeping me sane these days. Naturally I’ve been reading up a storm, so it’s time for another book review!
Today I’m reviewing Escape by K.R. Alexander.
So far I’ve read The Collector, The Collected, and Darkroom, and they’ve all been great! This book looked a little different than Alexander’s usual setup and I love roller coasters so I thought I would give it a try.
Let’s see how it went!
Blurb
WESTWORLD meets CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY meets JURASSIC PARK, as kids win a chance to enter the place of their dreams — and find that it quickly turns into a nightmare.
It’s all anyone talks about, and it’s all Cody dreams about. It’s the biggest adventure park in the world, and it’s more than mere rides and rollercoasters: At ESCAPE, you can do anything you want, be anyone you want, and there are no adults to tell you no.
Cody’s a nobody, but for some reason he receives an invitation and the opportunity of a lifetime. At first, it’s the most fun he’s ever had. But after a few days, everything in the park starts to go haywire. One at a time, rides malfunction. Simulations turn deadly. His fantasy world glitches, and the games become races for survival. A voice comes over the intercoms, then-ESCAPE was never a theme park for the rich and famous. It was a place for punishment. They have less than a week to escape from the park before it floods. Only five kids will be allowed to leave.
It started out as a fight to get to the coolest rides. Now, they have to fight to survive.

The Review

Another great read by K.R. Alexander!
Cody wants to create his own theme park one day, but with his humdrum life of few friends and parents that constantly fight that seems like a distant reality. That changes when he wins a competition to try out a groundbreaking new amusement park named Escape with 99 other kids. Everything is great at the exclusive park. That is, until the rides start to get hostile. Can Cody and the other kids survive this nightmare?
This was something of a switch up for this author. Typically they write paranormal works and this was more of a thriller, but it worked really well. Escape was an interesting theme park and used new technology to reinvent the experience. The rides were creative and sometimes scary, and the plot moved at a really fast pace, which I love.
Cody was a great pick as an MC and very relatable. He’s a dreamer by nature and was very kind-hearted and caring. I liked the dialogue between Jayson and Inga, and their friendship made sense.
If I had to nitpick at anything, I would’ve liked more hints at the thought process behind the antagonist earlier on in the book, but overall this was another super solid read. Highly recommend!
That’s A Wrap!
