Writing Update

Hello Everyone!

I’m long overdue for a writing update, and with Crypticon KC coming up this weekend I wanted to be sure you all knew the trajectory of the sequel to The Ruins.

I’ve been ping-ponging between writing the first draft and finishing plotting for the book for some time. I recently finishing plotting the book in its entirety, and this book will likely have 34 chapters, meaning it’ll be a fair amount longer than the first book.

I spent the last week fixing some small but significant details in Chapters 1-13.

My next goal is to start going through what I’ve written from the beginning to where I left off writing at Chapter 21, polishing as I go along (but not obsessing!). I’ve already started that process, and I’m really happy that there’s very little that I’m changing so far. Once I catch up to Chapter 21, I will be doing a mad writing dash to the end (might need a writing retreat for that) before I wrap up the first draft.

After that there will be a second draft, and then I’ll consider if the book is ready for an alpha read or if it needs one more draft to clean things up further.

Right now I’m projecting an early 2027 release, but that may change as things developed. Stay tuned!

For Soul Cursed as a series, I can confirm that there will be at least one more book, making this a trilogy. I knew that if I leave things as they are at this book’s end my readers will be very upset with me, so I have to do Tyler some justice and give his story a satisfying ending in a third novel.

Alright, there’s my update! I’ll try to keep everyone posted as I reach big milestones, and I’m hoping to really double down on writing for the remainder of the year. Wish me luck, and best of luck on your projects as well!
