Movie Review – Shazam

Howdy Movie Goers,

How’s it hanging? Good I hope!

I wanted to take a chance during this spooky time of year to break from all things creepy and do a non-scary review.

Today we’ll be doing just that with my movie review of Shazam!

Now, you know how I am with DC movies. Hesitant, if not pessimistic. Technically, I am a Marvel guy, and I’ve given a lot of DC movies a chance only to feel severly underwhelmed by their execution.

So going in I wasn’t expecting much. Would this be another classic tale of too much ambition on DC’s part? Let’s find out!

Movie Blurb:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s case, by shouting out one word – SHAZAM – this streetwise fourteen-year-old foster kid can turn into the grown-up superhero Shazam.

My Review:

The verdict is … I loved it!

This is very odd for me, but this movie was great!

I think what really sold me on Shazam is that it is simple in concept.

A wizard in another dimension named Shazam is waiting for the right person to bestow his great powers upon. At the same time, he is holding back evil forces, and when he is too weak to combat them any more, they are released into the world.

With no other option Shazam calls a young kid into the fold and bestows his powers upon him.

I really had a lot of fun watching this. There were some great laughs, action, and plenty of thrills along the way also.

The MC had a decent amount of development throughout the movie. He’s been running away from foster homes for quite some time after being abandoned by his mother.

The bad guys were creepy and entertaining, and the action didn’t disappoint either! Shazam’s powers were an interesting mix of Superman and The Flash, and I couldn’t get enough!

It’s no surprise that I give this great movie 9/10.

Wrap-up

Well that’s it for my review of Shazam. How about you?

Have you seen this movie? What did you think about it? Did you love it? Hate it? Tell me everything, let’s gush!

  1. Shazam is easily one of the best films of this year, which is impressive given how common superhero films are. Between the two Captain Marvel films, this was clearly the better effort. For that matter, I’d say it’s my favorite DC Extended Universe film thus far. Wonder Woman was pretty good, but Shazam stuck the landing far more gracefully.
