Short Story Review: That Seriously Obnoxious Time I Was Stuck at Witch Rimelda’s One Hundredth Birthday Party
Howdy Bookworms,
It’s been a while since I’ve read a short story, so I thought I’d switch things up. Once again, I scoured the freebies on Tor.com and ended up picking That Seriously Obnoxious Time I Was Stuck at Witch Rimelda’s One Hundredth Birthday Party by Tina Connolly.
I have no ties to this author, but it should be noted that the terrifying octopus creature freaked me out, so I had to see what this was all about.

“That Seriously Obnoxious Time I Was Stuck at Witch Rimelda’s One Hundredth Birthday Party” is a seriously funny story set in the world of Seriously Wicked, a young adult fantasy novel by Tina Connolly, the acclaimed author of Ironskin. Get ready to embrace your angsty inner witch at a pool party teeming with krakens, hexes, and cursed banana bread.
The Review
I gave this short story four witchy stars!
This is my first read of anything by this author, and I really had a great time!
The setting is relatively light. A magic-less young girl is attending a birthday party of a local witch in the summertime. Knowing the other bad witches that showed up and their snobby little witch kids, she knows they’re up to no good. Chaos ensues.
This was the perfect light read for me.
This is a middle grade/young adult story that had plenty of magic and laughs along the way.
I liked the main character and how different her perspective was from the witch moms and kids.
The plot was intriguing, entertaining, humorous, and kept my attention the whole time.
The writing was simple but strong and didn’t try to be more than it was, a fun short story.
All in all, this was a great quick read and well worth the 20-30 minutes it took to get through it. Definitely worth a try!
That’s A Wrap!
Well that’s it for this short story review. I hope you enjoyed it!
