Book Review: The Greenland Diaries: Days 101 – 140 (The Greenland Diaries #2)

Howdy Readers!

How was your Christmas holiday? Good I hope! I spent some time with family and the boyfriend and couldn’t be happier. Work is going to be a bit more stressful given some recent turnover, so that and grad school starting in late January may mean less book reviews until things calm down.

Speaking of which, it’s time for another book review! This time I read The Greenland Diaries: Days 101 – 140 (The Greenland Diaries #2) by Patrick W. Marsh.

Honestly I’m surprised that I’m currently reading three different series. It’s not something that I usually do, but when I saw this series I knew I had to give it a go. I really enjoyed the first book (link to that review below), so I went into this one with high hopes.

On to the book review!

The following collections of journals were recovered from a caravan outside of Duluth, Minnesota. The exact date of recovery is not known nor is the origin of the speaker. The Bureau for the Restoration of History (BFRH) would like help in identifying the man who kept these records. This unedited record of events is still considered the most accurate history of the apocalypse that occurred on April 15th, 2011.All errors have been left intact in the effort to preserve historical authenticity. The Review

It’s hard for a sequel to hold up to a premiere novel in a series, but this one did it really well.

Continuing Richard’s journey, he is forced to leave his home neighborhood against the ever-changing plant threat that’s ravaged the world. Hoping to find some answers, he journeys to his parents’ neighborhood and finds a lot more than he bargained for. Can he figure out the threat that hunts him day and night? Is there anyone else left out there?

I enjoyed this just as much as the first novel, perhaps a little bit more.

What really continues to work for me is the apocalypse factor. The plant threat is getting more complex with time, and I’m always surprised by the directions the author takes us in. It’s nice to not know what to expect, and the change of scenery in this one was refreshing. There’s also lots of action and nail-biting suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat pretty much the entire time.

The horror element is still really solid in this one. If you read this, you’re going to experience some messed up situations and reveals, but not to the extent that the average horror lover can’t appreciate.

I liked Richard’s journey a bit more in this one. He develops more as a person, likely due to the fact that there is an ally in this one to share in his struggles and triumphs. He’s able to explore more of the human side of things, while before he was just trying to maintain some semblance of sanity while being on his own.

Overall, really solid sequel with lots of chills and thrills. Well worth a read!

That’s A Wrap!

Well that’s it for this book review. I hope you enjoyed it!
