Book Review: Frost Bite

Why hello there readers!
How’s life treating you? Well I hope. Okay, so my TBR of books I’ve bought has reached an all-time high, so after I read Shadow Walker, I decided I had to tackle a read on my shelves at home.
Today’s book review is all about Frost Bite by Angela Sylvaine.
My sister bought me this book two Christmases ago, and I’ve been kicking myself for not getting to it sooner. I’ve been aware of this author for some time but hadn’t had a chance to experience their writing, so let’s see how it went!

Remember the ’90s? Well…the town of Demise, North Dakota doesn’t, and they’re living in the year 1997. That’s because an alien worm hitched a ride on a comet, crash landed in the town’s trailer park, and is now infecting animals with a memory-loss-inducing bite–and right before Christmas! Now it’s up to nineteen-year-old Realene and her best friend Nate to stop the spread and defeat the worms before the entire town loses its mind. The only things standing in the way are their troubled pasts, a doomsday cult, and an army of infected prairie dogs.

The Review

I had a good time with this thrilling scifi adventure!
Raelene lives in the small town of Demise where nothing ever happens. She’s been planning on leaving to go to school in Arizona, but when a meteorite lands not far from her home she finds a strange rock oozing black liquid. Soon after, the wildlife begin to act strange, which spreads to her fellow citizens. Can Raelene figure out what’s going on before it’s too late?
The characters really made this book shine. I love a scrappy character, and Raelene is just that. She’s hotheaded, sassy, and worried about her future. Her bestie Nate had a different past but was intelligent and I loved seeing their friendship go through its highs and lows throughout the novel. There’s a lot of other characters in town, and they each had a unique personality that made this little town feel real.
For those who need to know, yes, there are pets present in this novel and no, they don’t die. Lots of respect for the author for honoring that.
Where do I start with the plot? It was amazing! Clearly there’s some scifi tomfoolery going on with this meteor, and I had a great time unraveling the mystery as things progressed. Some scenes could get a little scary, some were a thrill ride, but overall there was this great sense of adventure that carries the reader forward.
Any lover of scifi and thrills would really appreciate this book, so if that’s you, give this one a try!
That’s A Wrap!
