Book Review: Shadow War (Shadow Walker #4)

Hello there, bookworms!
I hope this June’s treating you nice so far. I’m just as busy as ever, so I guess I can’t complain.
If you’ve been following this blog, then you know me and my book bestie Misty have been binging the Shadow Walker series by Jina Bazzar.
After reading Shadow Flames (book #3), Misty and I decided to leap right into the next and final installment of the series, Shadow War.
This post is my individual review of the book, soon to be followed by a buddy read chat with Misty. All right, let’s see how this last book went!

The stakes have risen, and I don’t think I can pay the price.
Not only am I wanted by every faction, but the Resistance is closer than ever to reaching their goal.
Not. My. Problem. My plans are simple: run and hide. I have no dillusions of grandeur, nor do I care enough to help.
But when I’m offered a clean slate in exchange of completing one task for the Coalition, I can’t help but fall for the temptation.
What I find, however, is so far from what I expect, it is not even on the list of possibilities.
Don’t miss the explosive conclusion to Melaina’s story! Perfect for fans of K. M. Shea, Lindsay Buroker, Jennifer Estep, Shannon Mayer and many more!

The Review

I’m pretty happy with this end to the Shadow Walker series.
After escaping The Resistance and finding safety, Melaina is dead set on stopping their evil plans and saving her brother and Joseph in the process. However, when the plan she undertakes goes awry she finds herself in captivity once again. As a cataclysmic event happens right under her nose, Mel and her allies will need all of the courage and resources at their disposal to see them through to a brighter future.
What I liked most about this book was the super high stakes. I feel that in this novel especially the entire world is at stake, and that gives Mel a lot of perspective about the present and possible future. That really kept my eyes glued to the page.
Mel’s growth this time revolved more around her shadow beast, and it was a very interesting thing to watch. I do still think she has something of a martyr complex, but after some more fumbles she accepts and requests help when she needs it.
Like with the other books, we’ve got a lot more action and mystery in each chapter. You can expect lots of superpowered battles, and once the big event happens (no spoilers!) I pretty much blazed through to the end in no time.
Overall, this was a really memorable urban fantasy/thriller series, and I got a satisfying ending to this story that made me glad I gave it a go. I highly recommend this series and can’t wait to read more from this author!
That’s A Wrap!
