Book Review: Only Human (Themis Files #3)

Hello Readers!
This month is pretty crazy with all the events I have going on, but the reading side of things has been great.
I’ve been reading the Themis Files and the Shadow Walker series for the past month or so, and I’ve finally reached the end of both. I’m looking forward to having some more autonomy with my reading picks.
Today I’m reviewing Only Human (Themis Files #3) by Sylvain Neuvel.
I’ve really been enjoying this series. I mean, who doesn’t love giant robots? Given the super high stakes in the last book I just had to see what happened next. Let’s see how it went!

Now, after nearly ten years on another world, Rose returns to find her old alliances forfeit and the planet in shambles. And she must pick up the pieces of the Earth Defense Corps as her own friends turn against each other.

The Review

I really enjoyed this last book in the Themis Files series. Seriously, what an epic scifi adventure!
After ten years on a foreign planet, Vincent, Eva, and Rose return to an Earth that has changed, and not for the better. Those with heightened levels of alien lineage in their blood are sent to concentration camps, while others are culled. As they reflect on their time on the foreign planet, Vincent, Eva, and Rose must do whatever they can to bring the world back to a healthy new normal.
What I loved most about this book was all the chapters centered on the foreign planet. I loved learning more about the language and culture of the alien species, and how similar they are to humans with distinct differences. It really helped fully flesh out this story and hold my interest.
I did have a little trouble understanding who was talking when there were numerous people engaged in a dialogue despite the format the author used to help curb that, but that’s really my only gripe with this novel.
The characters were great as always. Eva and Rose had a lot of great character growth, Eva with growing up and thinking for herself on a larger scale, and Rose for seeing outside of her rose colored glasses when it comes to the aliens.
Every chapter was full of intriguing and sometimes action-packed developments, and I loved how geopolitical issues were approached in a way that any reader can understand. I’m really glad I took a chance on this series, and if you love scifi and robots, I highly recommend giving it a try!
That’s A Wrap!
Well that’s it for this book review. Like what you see? Leave a tip!

Great review Jonny!! It’s nice being able to binge an entire series but sometimes you just need to read something completely different.
Thanks bestie! Yeah, all of this spawned from me picking up the first book at the thrift store, so I’m kind of amazed I ended up liking it so much.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I was skeptical going into it because I’m not big on sci fi but overall I really enjoyed it.
Yeah, I really loved the giant robot theme. Kinda reminded me of Power Rangers and Big O from back in the day. I can be kinda picky with my scifi but I picked the right one this time!
I have no idea what Big O is but I am familiar with the Power Rangers.
it was this older anime from early 00s that was kinda like Batman but with a huge robot to kill giant monsters with!
Ahh ok yeah I’ve never been into anime.
For me it was more of a high school thing. I’m suuuper picky about anything animated these days.
