September In Hindsight: Bookish Conquests and Other Things

Hello Everyone!

I can’t believe how fast September has passed, can you?

The shift from summer to fall is happening, and already the days are noticeably shorter. I love the shorter days and cooler temps, but that’s just me. I’m also super excited about Halloween, but I’ll stop now with that since this post is all about September!

There’s been plenty of great things going on this past month. Let’s dig right in!

Writing Conquests

September has been very productive for me.

Reaper Madness

I’ve been solely focused on my Reaper sequel, and this month I finished editing chapters 18 through 22. I’m currently halfway through chapter 23, but it’s probably my longest chapter of the book so things are taking a minute.

Keep in mind, there are a total of 29 chapters, so technically I’m about 80% done with my first polished draft.

Most of my edits are minor at this point, and I’m enjoying simply editing and making the writing a smidgen better.

Hopefully I can blast through the last seven chapters this month, but I can’t guarantee anything with Halloween taking place soon.

In the Meantime…

While I chisel out the Reaper sequel, if you haven’t checked out my writing, check out my published works below!

Reaper is the perfect festive treat if you love Halloween and terror.

For some, the Boogeyman is just a creepy fairy tale, but after a monster takes his sister from the basement, Gregory knows that the Boogeyman is all too real.

Can he save his sister from the monster before it’s too late?

If you’re not all about Halloween, why not take a dystopian journey in my short story Conscience?

Rory Bennels lives in a world ruled by a business entity known as the Corporation. For years he’s executed cerebral uploads for the recently deceased, but when the famed anarchist Epher Lore ends up in his lab, a series of events occur that shakes Rory’s world to the core.

On the Horizon

So what happens after my Reaper sequel? Well truth be told, the future is somewhat hazy right now. I submitted my grad school application last week, and if I get in I may have considerably less time to write.

I’ve been thinking on things and will most likely approach my strongest novella idea entitled The Ruins of Ayar Kachi. It is technically still in the plotting phase, but it’s definitely my strongest bet right now. It’s got a nice South American theme to it along with plenty of chills and thrills.

I also hope to write a scary short story/novella for Halloween 2021, so stay tuned!

Bookish Conquests

On the bookish side of things this month, I read 5 books and 3 short stories.

The Fell of Dark Review

Animorphs #39, The Hidden Review

7 Days of Hell Review

Eternal Myths Review

Mrs. Morris Meets Death Review

Until Summer Comes Around Review

The Ghost of Arlen Hall Review

Animorphs #40, The Other Review

Favorite Book

My favorite read for the month was Eternal Myths.

This short story two-parter was amazing! I loved the characters, the magical plays for power, and the writing style. Definitely check this out if you think you would like Arthurian folklore with a new spin.

Least Favorite Book

My least favorite read for this month was The Fell of Dark.

I didn’t hate this, but I was disappointed. The vampire and LGBT themes should have worked for me, but there was a bit too much explaining needed with the vampire factions and the main character ended up feeling kind of whiny after a while. Still, this was an intriguing read, so if it sounds like your cup of tea, give it a shot!

Movie & Series Conquests

On the watching side of things, I reviewed a movie and a season of a series this month.

The Furies Review

Glow Up, Season Two Review

Favorites

My favorite watch for the month was Glow Up Season Two.

This was a fun continuation of the series, and there were slight improvements in the judging that made me enjoy it a bit more than the first season.

Definitely give this one a go if you’re a fan off FaceOff or Skin Wars.

Least Favorite

Since I moderately enjoyed all my watches this month, I don’t have a least favorite. Hooray!

That’s a Wrap!

All right, there goes the month of September. How was your month? Did you read or see something in my conquests? Do you have any recommendations for books, tv, or movies? As always, feel free to comment!

Happy Reading and Watching, everyone!
